Description:
The main feature of the site is a reconstructed wintering post used by North West Company trader John Sayer, his Ojibwa wife, and his staff during the winter of 1804-05. It consists of a log rowhouse of six rooms, with a small palisade that surrounds the building. The NWC post was reconstructed in the 1970s. A new visitor center for the site was opened in 2003, along with a large new exhibition on the fur trade and fur trade social relations, especially on relationships with Native peoples. There is a gift shop, a dramatic social space, and staff facilities in the center.
