Description:
The Sherburne History Center is located in Becker between Elk River and St. Cloud, just off of historic Highway 10. Visitors to the Center can tour the exhibits, visit the research library, or walk the Legacy Trail. The .8 mile Legacy Trail features a replica Red River Ox Cart, a remnant farmstead, the historic Fox House (a National Register property) and the 1930s Bailey Gas Station. The Legacy Trail connects to the larger Oak Savanna Trail System that includes interpretive walking trails and an equine trail The Center is also surrounded by acres of native prairie.
The museum has two exhibits. Sherburne County: Life on the Edge tells the story of how our County's unique geographical location has shaped its history. This exhibit won an Award of Merit from the American Association of State and Local History in 2008.
Our current temporary exhibit, entitled Great Stories...Cool Stuff, highlights unique artifacts that tell interesting stories about Sherburne County's people, places, and events, including our oldest object, a late 1700s frock coat, and the first artifact collected by the historical society, the Big Lake Post Office sorting box from the mid-1800s.
